Festival Pop-Day Near Sell Out

Organisers of The Midlands Music Festival are delighted that due to the calibre of stars such as Westlife, The Saturdays and Scouting for Girls appearing on the Sunday line-up this year, demand has been massive from all around the country.  85% of tickets for the Sunday show have sold out with still three weeks to go.
Demand has been so high that the Tamworth Information Centre sold out their allocation earlier in the week and requested more tickets, organisers were only able to give them an extra 500 tickets for the Sunday show which have already gone on sale.
Festival organiser Jem Sanders said
“We are really delighted with sales for the Sunday of this year’s event, the only sad thing is that with so many people in Tamworth waiting for free tickets or offers, like last year, that they are going to end up missing out on an amazing show this year.
The Saturday show, the 80’s day, has not had the same uptake and we are launching a 2 for 1 offer for the Saturday show only but their will be no offers at all for the Sunday as we just don’t have the tickets left.”
You can take advantage of the 2 for 1 offer for the Saturday show, featuring the legendary Billy Ocean, Level 42, Sister Sledge, Alexander O’Neal, Hot Chocolate and many more, by visiting the ticket factory online box office and entering the promotional code OCEAN.
The Saturday 2 for 1 ticket offer is also available in person at the Tamworth Information Centre.
Any Tamworth resident who has already purchased a full price ticket for the Saturday show can contact the festival organisers at  info@themidlandsmusicfestival.co.uk This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and they will issue them with the 2 for 1 offer for the Saturday retrospectively.

Westlife's Shane lives the high life in Surrey

Westlife crooner Shane Filan, 30, and his wife Gillian are enjoying life in their new Surrey bolthole - a Georgian house in Cobham which is set in half an acre.
'It's private and we have great neighbours. We plan to spend half the year here and half in Ireland,' says Shane, who also owns a mock Tudor mansion in Carraroe, Co. Sligo.
Shane is already familiar with the area as he takes his children Nicole Rose, five, Patrick Michael, one, and six-month-old Shane Peter to nearby Chessington World of Adventures, and he enjoys playing golf at Wentworth.
Shane and brother Finbarr are spearheading a luxury housing development in Sligo where they hope to build 63 apartments.

Where We Are : So Far

The Where We Are tour is now over half way through and we wanted to celebrate what has been an amazing tour so far!

We want Westlife fans to give us their thoughts about this years tour by answering some questions in the coming weeks and we'll be putting the best answers up on the website as a tribute to the Where We Are Tour.

The second topic we want you to think about is:

From the tour so far what has been your best moment or memory? Did you catch the eye of one of the boys? Did anything funny happen with your friends? Anything that will be memorable and that other Westlife fans would love to hear about...

Support announced for Westlife Cawdor gig

WESTLIFE'S Cawdor Castle gig will now also feature X-Factor 2006 finalists The MacDonald Brothers plus girl band Wonderland – which features Westlife member's Kian's wife Jodi.
CK Events have just announced the two support acts for the August 28 event - both regular supports for the Irish band.
Fans are also in for a double helping of Highland favourites Craig and Brian MacDonald as the duo will also be appearing with the Stars From The X-Factor show the day before Westlife's Cawdor concert.
Wonderland are the latest addition to Louis Walsh's management roster. Former Hollyoaks regular Jodi Albert – who married Westlife's Kian Egan last May – appears with Sharon Condon, Corrina Durran, Leigh Learmont and Kasey Smith.
The girls were chosen from over 700 hopefuls at an audition in Dublin in 2008, and are due to release their debut album later this year.
CK Events director Kenny Cameron said, "The addition of The MacDonald Brothers and Wonderland ensure that the Westlife concert will be a great day out for all the family. The gates are open at 5pm and we would encourage ticket holders to get through to Cawdor early so that they can enjoy the full show."
He added, "We have been getting a lot of enquiries through our website asking about who would be supporting Westlife, and we are delighted to confirm these acts.
"There are still a few tickets available for the concert, but we have been amazed at how quickly they have been selling."
Westlife, supported by Wonderland and The MacDonald Brothers, are performing at the historic venue of Cawdor Castle on Saturday 28th August. Limited tickets, priced at £42.50, are available at www.ticketmaster.co.uk or telephone 08444 99 99 90.

New girlband to support Westlife in Cork

The new five-piece UK/Irish girlband Wonderland have just been announced as Westlife's support for their two shows at The Marquee, Cork on July 6th and 7th.

The band, created by Louis Walsh and managed by Walsh and Kian Egan have had a lot of press surrounding their formation and until this year had not even got a name.

But now after two years, Wonderland are here, consisting of Jodi, Sharon, Corrina, Leigh and Kasey.

It's hard to say whether the girls will feel as much success as girlbands like
B*Witched or Girls Aloud, playing with Westlife (as well as Jodi being married to manager and Westlife bandmate Kian Egan) is probably not the market they want to go for.

It has also been reported that their rise to fame will be documented in an ITV show entitled
'The Management'. All that being said their is an opening for a big UK/Irish girlband with the apparent demise of Girls Aloud on the cards... Watch this space!

Music Feature: Boys Just Wanna Have Fun

Given Boyz II Men’s status as the most successful R&B male vocal group of all time (based on record sales), is it any surprise the Philly outfit is celebrating its 20th anniversary in the music business? Now down to a trio, following the departure of Michael McCary in 2003 due to health reasons, the Boyz will still be flexing those golden pipes and trotting out hits like “Motownphilly,” “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday,” “I’ll Make Love to You” and “End of the Road.” In the meantime, the success of the Boyz served as a bridge between boys bands of the past and a number of successors.
Menudo – Despite being largely overlooked by the Anglo world, this Puerto Rican boy band got its start in 1977. In addition to being the launching pad for the likes of Ricky Martin and Robi Draco Rosa, Menudo instituted the idea of rotating members out once they turned 16, their voices changed, they grew facial hair or got too tall.
New Edition – The predecessors to Boyz II Men, New Edition are often credited with kicking off the whole boy band craze back in the ’80s. A ridiculously fertile well of talent, New Edition spawned the likes of Ralph Tresvant, Bell Biv DeVoe, Johnny Gill and, of course, Bobby Brown, whose personal travails have managed to make him his own one-man reality show.
New Kids on the Block – The third best-selling boy band of all time, (80 million record over 12 years), NKOTB enjoyed their heyday in the late ’80s and early ’90s. Despite a number of unsuccessful reunions, it seems the most recent may have actually stuck after the five-some released The Block in 2008 and recently played a string of Radio City Music Hall dates.
’N Sync – Broken up since 2007, ’N Sync sold more than 56 million records worldwide during their dozen years together. This was also the entity that gave us business mogul/amateur golfer/serial celebrity dater Justin Timberlake and Miley Cyrus backup dancer Joey Fatone.
Backstreet Boys – The best-selling boy band of all time, the Backstreet Boys have more lives than Jason Voorhees and have proved it by releasing their seventh album, This is Us, despite the departure of Kevin Richardson.
Take That – Best known for giving the world Brit bad boy Robbie Williams, the current quartet sold more than 25 million records from 1991 to 1996, with the bulk of their success coming on the other side of the pond.
O-Town – Spun off from the MTV-produced reality show Making the Band, O-Town enjoyed a brief three-year window of success from 2000 through 2003, barely eking out a pair of hits (“Liquid Dreams,” “All or Nothing”) despite having the backing of music mogul Clive Davis.
98 Degrees – This rare boy band quartet featuring the Lachey brothers, Drew and Nick, (aka the former Mr. Jessica Simpson), was originally signed to Motown records and somehow managed to spawn eight American Top 40 singles. A 2004 appearance on Nick & Jessica’s Family Christmas TV special was the last time the foursome reunited.
Westlife – Wildly successful in Europe but barely a blip on the American market, this pop group is the only act in UK history to have their first seven singles go straight to No. 1.
Fingerbang – Not a flesh-and-blood group of guys, but the fictional foursome created by Eric Cartman on episode 56 of South Park, the five-some consisted of Cartman, Stan, Kenny, Kyle and Wendy (since all boy bands have five members). The name came from Cartman’s interpreting it to mean the act of someone pretending their hand is a firearm.

Stellar line-up just a train ride away

SOME of the biggest names in pop music are heading to Staffordshire for a major music festival taking place just one train stop away from Burton.

The Midlands Music Festival comes to The Castle Pleasure Grounds, in Tamworth, on Saturday and Sunday, July 17 and 18, with proceeds going to Just 1 Life, the premature baby care charity. The two-day event features a stellar line-up of pop talent on the Sunday, with appearances from Westlife, The Saturdays, Alexandra Burke, Peter Andre, Scouting For Girls, Chipmunk, Taio Cruz, Olly Murs and McLean.
The previous day features some of the biggest names of the 1980s, namely Billy Ocean, Level 42, Sister Sledge, Alexander O’Neal, Hot Chocolate, The Christians, Kajagoogoo, Shakatak and Aswad.
The line-up is a big coup for Staffordshire and a chance for fans to see some of the biggest names in pop for a knock-down price, according to festival operations director, Adam Bridge.
He said: “This year’s festival is certainly a step up from 12 months ago. The quality of acts across both days is summed up by the fact that collectively they have topped the charts 27 times.
“The Saturday event features some of the biggest 80s artists, several of whom are flying in especially from America.
“The fact you can get all this in Tamworth for less than you would pay to see them individually at the big UK arenas is amazing.”
Tickets range from £29.50 or £50 for two days, while a group ticket for four can be obtained for £100. Tickets are available at www.themidlandsmusicfestival.co.uk and www.seetickets.com.

Where We Are : So Far

Westlife fans! We asked you for your favourite songs of the ‘Where We Are Tour’ so far. We’ve had loads of great replies, and here is a very small selection! Enjoy!

DedicatedToWestlife
"I’ve Got a Feeling" was brilliant as it brought the crowd together and everyone in the arena just enjoyed themselves. Can’t wait for next year, take care x

Shazzy Filan
This tour is the best one yet... Saw the opening night in Belfast and was speechless when “Halo” came on - my all time fave single... not to mention, “Sex Is On Fire”. x

Sally Courtney
It has to be “Where We Are”. Such a great song and an amazing opening to the best concert ever! x

Alisha Callaghan
“I'll See You Again” in Croke Park was sensational and a beautiful tribute to the late Nicky Byrne and Kevin Egan. It brought a tear to my eye. That whole show in Croker was out of this world. I was very proud of ye that night and very proud to be Irish. Smile x x x x

Aine Boyle
My favourite was when you did your old songs like “Uptown Girl” and “I'm Already There” but my all-time favourite is “When You're Looking Like That” because it always gets the crowd going and I love it!!

Ele Lakin
Loved the whole show, but “I’ve Got a Feeling” was just amazing. I'll always remember rocking out with my niece to that one.

Lisa Swift
I know its a classic but “Swear It Again” is one of my all time favourites and I love to hear it on tour, while I really enjoyed the mix up of cover songs too!! Pure talent!! X

Hazel Whiteland
I have to say, "Flying without Wings". I got married at the end of March and this was our first dance song and it was really emotional when you sung it on the tour!

Sofi Lubschik
The whole concert was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. My favourite song was “What Makes A Man”, it was the best moment in my life.

WESTLIFE MAKE IT A HOT, SUMMER NIGHT

They came on to fireworks, played Sex On Fire and left thousands of fans screaming for more on a hot, summer's night.
A crowd of 10,000 sang, danced, cried and played the odd vuvuzela through a two-hour set of greatest hits by Ireland's most successful band at Ashton Gate this evening - and the show contained a few surprises.
It was Westlife's first visit to Bristol in 12 years and they made the most of it, playing 20 songs to an ecstatic crowd who had waited so long see their heroes back in the West country, regaling some lucky fans with 'Happy Birthday'.and cracking jokes about Nicky Byrne's recent penalty-misses in the Socceraid charity match.
After a black curtain fell to reveal the now-grown-up hearthrobs for opener Where We Are, the boys - dressed moodily in black - had the mainly female crowd signing along to What About Now before rocking into When You're Looking Like That.

Westlife's Kian Egan in action during the opening number

They slowed down the pace with their number one hit My Love - replete with mass arm waving - and the first big reaction of night greeted their cover of Billy Joel's Uptown Girl, which even had the directors box on its feet.
As the sun set behind the Atyeo Stand stage, an acapella Swear It Again, piano-led Mandy and slow-dance If I Let You Go had the crowd in reflective mood.
The Bristol skies started to darken along with the synthised intro to Shadow and the band's first costume change saw them perform the hands-in-the-air Home and ballad I'm Already There.

The concert attracted a 10,000 crowd to City's home ground

The crowd were back on their feet jumping as the 30-somethings - now clad in colured leather jackets and surrounded by giant inflatables - proved they still had their finger on the pulse by rolling out surprise covers of Black Eyed Peas' I Gotta Feeling and Beyonce's Halo. A further cover of Thin Lizzy's Boys Are Back In Town - with band-member Kian Egan on guitar - showed a nod to their Irish roots before the rock-out continued with a raunchy cover of Kings of Leon hit Sex On Fire, in what was arguably the highlight of the show.
One of the biggest cheers of the night greeted football-mad Nicky Byrne's query: 'Are there any Bristol City fans here tonight?'; and the biggest boos to the follow-up question: 'Are there any Bristol Rovers fans?'
After a quick breather, it was back to their own material with What Makes A Man - complete with fireworks - 1999 smash hit Flying Without Wings and fellow number one World Of Our Own getting the big crowd singing along word perfect before fireworks saw the band exit the stage down the Atyeo Stand tunnel.
With glow-sticks held aloft in the crowd and the staged bathed in purple light, the band returned dressed in smart black suits for an emotional encore of I'll See You Again and You Raise Me Up.

The fans enjoy the sunshine at Ashton Gate this evening

"Good evening Bristol, it's nice to have the sun out. It's been 12 years since we were last in Bristol, let's hope it's not another 12 years before we come back," Shane Filan told the audience, and 10,000 happy fans will no doubt feel the same way.

Earlier Bristol youngsters The Fuel - winners of the Evening Post support act competition - got a chance to play the big stage, before all-girl band Wonderland - managed by Louis Walsh and Egan - played a well-received 30-minute set.
The show was another example of Ashton Gate's ability to attract the biggest names in music and group managing director Doug Harman said: "It was a very enjoyable concert and, with the weather impeccable, the perfect summer night for thousands of Westlife fans here tonight.

All-girl Wonderland were the main support act to Westlife

"Ashton Gate Stadium remains the only venue in the region capable of attracting artists of Westlife's calibre and watching so many people singing along and enjoying the show makes all the hard work worthwhile.
"We were very pleased with the turnout and special credit must go to all our staff for the effort they put in to make it a success.
"The work doesn't stop here, however, as we now look forward to welcoming top UK comedian Bill Bailey to Bristol for a stand-up show on Saturday night for what promises to be another memorable evening."

Bristol youngsters The Fuel played a rousing opening set

10,000 Fans Expected At Ashton Gate For Westlife Gig

10,000 people are expected at Ashton Gate this evening to watch Westlife perform.
The "man band" have sold 43 million records worldwide, with 14 number one singles and 10 chart-topping albums.

With a capacity of 15,000 at Bristol City's ground, there are still around 5,000 tickets left for the gig.

Bosses are hoping it is going to be a family event, and have now released a special family ticket for two adults and two children, that can be purchased for £50.

Group Managing Director of Bristol City FC, Doug Harman is expecting a great crowd:

"I think they've had some really good reviews from their tour to date, and we anticipate a really good show.  We've just released two more blocks for general sale to families, so we can get two adults and two kids in for £50.  The weather forecast is brilliant, so if people have got no plans we recommend they come and see a really good show with us."

Shane's Blog

Hi Guys!

Just a note to say how delighted we are with the tour so far. It's been our most enjoyable tour by far and we feel you enjoyed it in a big way too!! We can't wait now for the summer shows and of course our show in Sligo on 30th of July. That is going to be a very special night for us!

Also thank you to everyone who supported soccer aid this year. It was a massive success for UNICEF and we  were so chuffed to be involved and of course it was great to beat England! Third time lucky I suppose.. But on the night I think we deserved the win.

It was amazing to play at Old Trafford and even more amazing to play with all the soccer legends! Myself and Nicky really enjoyed it and made a lot of new friends... Bring on 2012!!!

See you all soon guys

Love always

Shane

Westlife star Kian Egan serendes his wife with Smack My Bitch Up

Kian Egan really knows how to woo his woman.
We saw the Westlife crooner serenading his wife, Jodi Albert, with a rendition of Smack My Bitch Up by the Prodigy as he let her get the drinks in the Hard Rock VIP tent.
Now that is one cover we'd love the Westlife boys to do.

WESTLIFE INSPIRED BY RAUNCHY FANS

WESTLIFE have been inspired by their raunchy fans to make their next album one for the bedroom.

After seeing the crowds wave filthy banners at them on their current arena tour, the Irish lads want their fans to make sweet music to what will be their 11th release.
Nicky Byrne, 31, pictured right, told me backstage at their sell-out O2 Arena gig: “The banners have become raunchier and most don’t leave anything to the imagination. “Liverpool and Sheffield are definitely the dirtiest crowds. So the next album is going to be one for the bedroom with lots of juicy and sensual tracks.” Kian Egan, 30, and Nicky expect a baby boom across the nation, thanks to their new album. Mark added: “You can listen to it while you’re conceiving. Lots of people have called their sons and daughters after us already. “We’re in meetings this week for the next album and have lots of ideas as we want to get out by the end of the year.” Nicky admitted: “Touring is our baby. When we promote a single it’s normally a big ballad so we’re limited to what you can do with the live performances.
“So touring is like getting out of school on our summer holidays where we can go daft.”

Shane revealed he will once again pair up with manager and X Factor judge Louis Walsh, 57, for the TV show’s new series.
He said: “If we have a new single out we’d love to perform on the show too.”

Kian is pants at marriage

Jodie Albert, who is married to Westlife's KIAN EGAN, performed with her new girlband Wonderland - and later told me she's not worried about her hubby joining the list of love cheat boy-band singers.
"We got together six years before we married so we knew each other fully. It's mad some people get married after just six months," she tells me. But don't expect to see a stork stopping by the Egan household anytime soon. Jodie says: "He'll be a great dad one day, but there's no baby on the horizon as Kian is a handful enough. I'm still training him to pick his pants off the floor!"
Singer Paloma Faith got hot and bothered on the way to the festival... travelling in a sweaty tour bus. And she vowed to next year make the journey in a fully-working ice cream van with a constant supply of lollies. The New York star wowed the crowds by unveiling her new on-stage "sultry temptress" alter ego. I wonder what will be her next... Mrs Whippy?

Byrne Boys in Blue at Bocca...

Right folks. We dare any of you out there to look at these pics we snapped of Westlife lad Nicky Byrne with his two twin boys, Rocco & Jay, and not get totally broody... They are soooo fricken cute! We spotted Nicko and wife Georgina taking their wee tots to Bocca for lunch this week...

When we caught up with Westlifer Nicky Byrne in the City Centre this week he was dressed in an almost matching blue outfit as his two blonde boys Rocco and Jay. The hand-in-hand three piece even had matching denim jeans and white trainers... Awwwww.

When we spotted our Nicky he was leaving Bocca Restaurant on South Anne Street after feeding his Slinky wielding clan in the off Grafton Street hot spot.

Just moments before the singer left the eatery with the boys, his stunning wife Georgina had ran ahead, no doubt to grab their car from the car park or something. Darn it - we were looking for the full family portrait - the Hallmark moment!

X Factor judge Pixie Lott

Pixie Lott is set to join Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh as a guest judge for 'X Factor' auditions in Birmingham next week.

Pixie Lott is set to be the second 'X Factor' guest judge.

The 19-year-old pop star wowed judge Simon Cowell when she performed on his other reality show 'Britain's Got Talent' last weekend, and he has promptly invited her to join him, Louis Walsh and Cheryl Cole during Monday (14.06.10)'s audition in Birmingham.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Pixie may be young but she's not afraid to speak her mind. She's only been in the charts for just over a year but she already sounds like a pro.

"And unlike a lot of pop acts these days, she's happy singing live so is well-qualified to judge the wannabes.

"Simon was really blown away by her performance last week on 'BGT' and his mind was made up."

The pretty blonde-haired starlet is now expected to replace usual judge Dannii Minogue next week, while she the Australian mentor is on maternity leave.

Pixie will be the second pop star to guest judge the new series of the show so far - after former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell joined the panel for auditions in Glasgow this week.

Lily Allen, Charlotte Church, Robbie Williams and a member of boy band Westlife are all expected to help out as thousands of hopeful pop stars audition for the singing show over the next few weeks.

Dubliners' diary: Wow! Kasey finds romance at Westlife gig

It looks like Jodi Albert's Wonderland bandmate Kasey Smith could soon be following in her footsteps by bagging herself a pop star beau.

The blonde singer was spotted cosying up to one of the members of American boyband Wow this weekend.

The pair had both taken to the stage with their respective bands as support acts at Westlife's Croke Park gig on Saturday night.

And they appeared to be quite taken with one another when they decamped to celebrity hotspot Krystle for an exclusive afterparty.

The Diary spotted the up and coming popstars looking very close when they arrived hand in hand to join the rest of the celebs at the invite-only bash in the club's Penthouse suite.

Meanwhile Westlife star Kian Egan and Jodi, his wife of just over a year, were more loved up than ever as they celebrated the success of the massive show, alongside friends including fellow Westlife crooner Mark Feehily and his partner Kevin McDaid.

Smitten singer Kian had paid an emotional tribute to his actress turned singer wife during the concert, thanking her for her continuous support throughout the past year which saw his father pass away in July following a long battle with cancer.

Birthday
The star also debuted his musical talents during the show when he performed The Boys Are Back in Town on an electric guitar, given to him as a birthday present from his Westlife bandmates.
Nicky Byrne and Shane Filan meanwhile had their chance to shine when their children, Nicky's twins Rocco and Jay and Shane's three children Nicole, Patrick and baby Shane Peter took to the stage with them for the band's hit single Already There.

The pair -- along with their wives Georgina and Gillian-- were not in attendance at the afterparty in Krystle, as they had to jet straight to Manchester following the concert in order to take part in Robbie Williams' Soccer Aid event at the United ground at Old Trafford yesterday.

Westlife in emotional tribute to Gerry at Croker gig

WESTLIFE made an emotional tribute to late broadcaster Gerry Ryan during their sellout concert in Croke Park over the weekend.

Up to 82,300 fans heard the Irish boyband dedicate their hit 'Flying Without Wings' to the broadcaster who died on April 30.

The five-piece Irish group, who Ryan had supported from their earliest days, also performed at the RTE personality's funeral on May 6.

And the wife of singer Ronan Keating made a return to the social scene on Saturday night when she was a guest of the pop band.

The 36-year old, who is also a close friend of Cecelia Ahern and her sister Georgina Byrne, who is married to Westlife star Nicky Byrne, attempted to dodge media.

Arriving at the stadium, she was given a VIP pass and seen being escorted around the backstage area by Westlife manager Louis Walsh. She later attended Krystle nightclub where the band had booked a VIP suite.

Meanwhile, Ryan's favourite band Snow Patrol also spoke this weekend of their shock at the sudden death of the presenter.

When RTE colleagues hosted a tribute show to the broadcaster, they closed the Ryan Line for the final time with the Snow Patrol song 'Chasing Cars', a song Ryan had played incessantly on his 2FM show.

In 2008, Ryan revealed how the band's music had helped him through the break-up of his marriage.

He had the honour of introducing the group on 'The Late Late Show' when he stood in for Pat Kenny.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Snow Patrol singer Gary Lightbody revealed they were touring last month when they were told of Ryan's death.

"It was so tragic. He'd told us personally how much 'Chasing Cars' had meant to him."

WESTLIFE DUO STAR IN SOCCER AID

Westlife stars warmed up for their concert appearance at Ashton Gate on June 17th by making an appearance in Sunday's televised Socceraid game.

Irish duo Nicky Byrne and Shane Filan - one half of the best-selling quartet who will be playing live at Bristol City's home ground next Thursday - played alongside the likes of Zinedine Zidane and Ryan Giggs in the Rest Of The World team who beat an England XI on penalties.

Byrne (pictured next to Patrick Kielty and Gordon Ramsay) actually missed a spot-kick in the first half before Jamie Redknapp put the 'home' side ahead at Old Trafford shortly before half-time.

Alan Shearer and Teddy Sheringham linked-up well for the latter to head England 2-0 in front after the break. Boxing legend Joe Calzaghe pulled one back for the Rest of the World before Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia headed home a late Figo corner to level at 2-2.

The game - watched by 65,493 at Old Trafford and broadcast live on ITV - was eventually won 7-6 by the Rest of the World on penalties, with Filan making up for Byrne's earlier miss and American film star Woody Harrelson bagging the winning spot-kick.

The money raised will help UNICEF continue to provide long-term humanitarian and developmental assistance to children and mothers in developing countries. You can donate by visiting socceraid.unicef.org.uk.

Meanwhile, seats for Westlife's Ashton Gate show can be purchased priced £35-50 online at ashtongatestadium.co.uk or seetickets.com or ticketmaster.co.uk or theticketfactory.com; or by phoning the stadium hotline 0871 222 6666 (option 1, then listening out for "concert tickets").

Flying with EUR40,000 wings

WESTLIFE stars Shane Filan and Nicky Byrne will dash from their Croke Park concert on Saturday night in a EUR40,000 private jet.

The pair will make a frantic journey after performing to 70,000 fans and jump on a Lear jet to Manchester which will be on standby at Dublin Airport.

They were forced to pay out for the luxury so they could make it to northern England in time to play in the Soccer Aid charity match at Old Trafford on Sunday.

And the duo are taking their big match so seriously they have ditched champagne and beer from their backstage area and replaced them with energy drinks.

Shane told the Irish Daily Mirror: "We can't go out celebrating after the Croke Park concert because we have a huge match the next day in Manchester.

"Nicky and I have had to book a private jet to get us over in time so we can get a good night's sleep before the match.

"We have been doing loads of training for it and we're really hyped up for the big game.

"But it's nothing compared to the excitement we are feeling for returning to Croke Park.
"It's going to be an amazing night. Last time we played there it took us about two weeks to come back down to earth."

A show insider revealed: "Normally there would be a few beers and even some champagne backstage. But in Nicky and Shane's dressing rooms they have requested energy bars, fitness foods and energy drinks.

"They are basically having the same diet as a professional footballer.
They take it very seriously."

The pair's bandmates Kian and Mark will instead be leading the after-show celebrations by booking a private suite in top Dublin showbiz haunt Krystle.

The stars will hit the town with their manager Louis Walsh and Kian's new girl band Wonderland, which includes his wife Jodi Albert.

Kian promised: "It's going to be our biggest night for years.

"We're going to give the fans a night they will never forget."

70,000 fans are expected to pack Croke Park on Saturday for Westlife concert

Westlife To Compete In JP McManus Invitational Pro-Am

Irish boy band, Westlife have confirmed they will play golf in the JP McManus Invitational Pro-Am on the 5th and 6th July 2010.

The band will join a host of leading celebrities including Hugh Grant, Samuel L. Jackson, Aidan Quinn, Michael Flatley and Kyle McLachlan along with sporting greats such as AP McCoy, Martin O’Neill, Niall Quinn, Paul O’Connell, Harry and Jamie Redknapp at Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort next month.

Westlife are possibly the most recognisable Irish faces on the planet with band members Mark Feehily, Shane Filan, Kian Egan, and Nicky Byrne. Since their formation in July 1998, Westlife have gone on to sell over 44 million records worldwide. They have come a long way since their beginnings and have managed to garner 14 number one singles in the United Kingdom, the third-highest in UK history, tying with Cliff Richard and trailing behind only Elvis Presley and The Beatles. The Westlife lads have now returned to centre stage with their 10th album ‘Where We Are’ and a tour of the same name kicked off this month.

Commenting on the announcement, Tournament host, JP McManus said; “We are delighted that Westlife are joining us to play in the Pro Am. They will add great excitement and we very much appreciate the time and support they are giving to the event. With only six weeks to go before the tournament, the anticipation is already building and to date, we have sold over 24,000 entrance caps with only 6,000 remaining. We would therefore urge people to purchase their caps as soon as possible to avoid disappointment”.

The aim of the JP McManus Invitational Pro-Am is to support mid-western charities and groups in their work with the underprivileged and disadvantaged. All proceeds are donated in their entirety towards the development of these services .

JP McManus said: "We're delighted JB, Rickie and John have all agreed to play in the tournament. JB and Rickie are two of the most exciting young players on tour and we are sure they will make a major connection with the Irish crowds at Adare Manor. John is an old friend of Irish golf fans, remains as popular as ever and we appreciate his support for the tournament."

Spectators can choose from one of eight different coloured “two-day entrance caps” representing Ireland, Munster Rugby and each of the Munster counties.

At a cost of €50 for both days, they can be purchased from the website on www.jpmcmanusproam.com or at selected retail outlets.

Look who's taking after dad - yes, it's Nicky's boys

THE STAGE is set for the Westlife juniors to follow their dads into the showbiz world.
Proud dad Nicky Byrne has posted a picture of his three-year-old twin sons Rocco and Jay on his Twitter site.
The toddlers are snapped in matching jeans and jumper outfits reaching up to the microphones on stage at a stadium in the UK where Westlife are performing.
The two appear comfortable in front of the mic and Nicky (31) said that he couldn't resist posting the cute photo.
"I just had to tweet this!" Nicky said. "Rocco n Jays first soundcheck. Newcastle metro arena 31/5/10."
Nicky has admitted that the group love the touring, no matter how tough the schedule.
"Touring is our baby. When we promote a single it's normally a big ballad so we're limited to what you can do with the live performances," he said.
"So touring is like getting out of school on our summer holidays where we can go daft."
Nicky and his wife Georgina Ahern have been together since they first met in school.
"From the moment I saw Georgina, I put her up on a pedestal," Nicky once revealed.
"I could have a conversation with anyone, but I couldn't talk to Georgina."
Karaoke
Their twin sons celebrated their third birthday recently but already appear to be following in their father's footsteps.
Nicky lost his own dad Nikki last year and revealed that he was part of the reason he went into showbusiness.
The late Nikki, a former singer on the cabaret and karaoke circuit, was part of Nikki and the Studz in his earlier days and also used to perform with Nicky when he was younger.
Long-time friend, the showband legend Sonny Knowles, sang Smile at the funeral service and there was also a performance from Westlife.
Shane Filan (30), Kian Egan (30), Mark Feehily (29) and Nicky are currently in the middle of a hectic sold-out tour schedule.
Westlife's Mark said that they were chuffed that so many people have called their sons after them.
And he also joked that have anticipated a baby boom thanks to their next album. "You can listen to it while you're conceiving," he joked. "We're in meetings this week for the next album and have lots of ideas as we want to get out by the end of the year."
The Irish band's last album sold over a million copies.
