Westlife draw in the crowds

The fans queued from the early hours of the morning in anticipation for Sandown Park’s last concert of the summer series which featured the Irish Pop group sensation Westlife performing live after racing to a bumper crowd of over 14,000 people.

Opening their concert with their hit “Where we are”, the enthusiastic crowd screamed in excitement as the boys, Shane, Kian, Mark and Nicky stepped onto the stage. Westlife who are currently on a UK summer tour called The Where we are Tour, performed classic songs such as Flying without Wings, Uptown Girl as well as new numbers from their latest album.

David Mackinnon, managing director for Sandown Park Racecourse, said, “Our music evenings throughout the summer have proved extremely popular with our racing fans with Spandau Ballet kicking off the first of our concerts, followed by Razorlight and ending with the boys from Westlife.

“Attracting crowds of over 40,000 over the three nights we have welcomed new customers and existing racegeors to the racecourse who I’m sure will return for our forthcoming race meetings later in the year.”

Sandown Park’s next race meeting is on Saturday, August 20, Variety Club Day, when the award winning play War Horse, written by Michael Morpurgo comes to life on the course.

The puppets from the smash-hit production will form part of a pre-race presentation and will include a demonstration with the life-size model of a War Horse operated by three men.

As a special treat to the day, Michael Morpurgo will be present and will introduce the spectacular puppets from his play, War Horse. Children under 18, accompanied by an adult, get in for free.
